TAC Internet Setup Instructions
for Macintosh

Step One: Dialer Configuration
Choose the appropriate dialer from the section
below. You will only be using ONE of the following.
ConfigPPP Setup
- Open "ConfigPPP" and set up as follows:
- Set Port Name to "Modem Port"
- Idle Timeout to "None".
- Echo Interval to "Off".
- Make sure there is no tick in "Disable Auto
Connect" and "Terminal Window"
- Make sure there is a tick in "Hangup on Close"
and "Quiet Mode".
- Click on the "Config" button and
enter the following details:
- In PPP Server Name type in "TAC".
- Set the Port Speed to "57600".
- Set Flow Control to "CTS &
RTS (DTR)".
- Set "Tone Dial"
- Enter the phone number.
- Set the Modem connect timeout to "60 Seconds".
- Click on the "Connect Script" button
and make sure that everything is set to "Out" and that the
boxes under "CR" are not checked. Then click "OK".
- Click on "Authentication". In Auth
ID enter your "username".
Enter your password in Password then click "OK".
- There is no need to open or adjust LPC or
IPCP options so click "Done".
- To connect click "Open" and your modem
will dial and connect you to TAC.
FreePPP Setup
- Click on the "Telephone" icon on the "Menubar".
Choose "Open FreePPP Setup".
- Click on the "General" tab and click on
"Modem Setup". Enter the following details:
- Set "Connected to:" to Modem Port
- Set "Dial Type" to Tone
- Check "Modem Speaker on While Connecting"
- Under "Modem Init String Settings:" check
AutoDetect init string
- The click on "OK"
- Click on the "Accounts" tab.
- Click the "New" button. Enter the following
details:
- Account name: Is your Name.
- Connect: set it to Directly.
- Username: Enter your username.
- Password: is your TAC password.
- Click on the "Connection" tab and set it
up as follows:
- Port Speed: Should be set to 57600
- Flow Control: Set this to CTS & RTS (DTR)
- Click on the "Options" tab. Enter the following
details:
- Domain name: "I'm not used".
- Primary DNS: "Me either".
- Secondary DNS: "Ditto".
- IP address: Check "Assigned by PPP server".
- Click on "OK".
- Click "Connect" to dial in to TAC.
Open Transport PPP Setup
- Click on the "Apple" icon then "Control
Panels" then "PPP".
- Enter your details in the following fields:
- Name: Enter your username.
- Password: Is your TAC Password. (If you want
to save your password then check the "Save password" box).
- Number: Enter the phone number for the appropriate
account.
- Click on the "Options" button and select
the "Protocol" tab.
- Check "Allow Error Correction" and "Compression in
Modem".
- Check "Use TCP Header Compression".
- Click on "OK".
- Click on "Connect" to dial into TAC.
Remote Access Setup (Imac)
- Click on the "Apple" icon then "Control
Panel" then "PPP".
- Enter your details in the following fields:
- Name: Enter your username.
- Password: Enter your Password (If you want
to save your password then check the Save password box).
- Phone Number: : Enter the phone
number for the appropriate account.
- Click on "Options" and select the "Protocol"
tab.
- Check "Allow Error Correction" and "Compression In
Modem".
- Check "Use TCP Header Compression".
- Click on "OK".
- Click on "Connect" to dial into TAC.
Step Two: TCP/IP Setup
Follow the settings for the appropriate version
you are running
MacTCP Setup
MacTCP for Macintosh running MAC OS 7.5.x.
- Open TCP/IP by clicking on the "Apple Icon",
then "Control Panels" then "MacTCP".
Click on "PPP", then click "More".
Enter the following details:
- Under Obtain Address: Select "Server".
- Under Routing Information: Enter the "Gateway
Address:" as 0.0.0.0.
- Under IP Address Set "Class" to 'C'
- Under Domain Name Server Information enter
the following details:
- On the first line set "Domain" to tac.com.au
and "IP Address" to and make sure there is a dot
in "Default".
- On the second line set "Domain" to tac.com.au
and "IP Address" to .
- Click on "OK" and then close the
MacTCP window.
TCP/IP Setup
TCP/IP for Macintosh running MAC OS 8.x.
- Open TCP/IP by clicking on the "Apple Icon",
"Control Panels" then "TCP/IP".
Enter the following details:
- Set Connect via: to "PPP".
- Set Configure: to "Using PPP Server".
- IP Address, Subnet mask, and Router
address should be all set to "will be supplied by server".
- Under Name server addr.: type in
press enter and type in the same box .
- Under Search Domains: type in tac.com.au.
- Close the window and when prompted to "Save" click
"Save".
Step Three: Mail Settings
POP3 server (incoming mail)
: mail.tac.com.au
SMTP server (outgoing mail)
: mail.tac.com.au
POP3 account is your Username. (Don’t
type in "Username", your Username is the name you log on with)
Your EMAIL address is : "username"@tac.com.au
There are many other programs
that may require setting up but we have decided to support only Microsoft
Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. Some Internet applications worth
having a look at are as follows.
www.icq.com -
A chat client which allows you to see who is on-line at the time and also
have conference chats, or search for people with similar interests to
yourself.
www.winfiles.com -
A site full of Internet applications, software & driver updates, on-line
help etc.
www.ninemsn.com.au - Ninemsn
contains lots of useful info, such as news weather and a TV guide.
TAC CONDITIONS OF USE.
Like all ISP servers TAC has
conditions of use. It is very important you read these conditions, as
they are the basis of our agreement with you.
If you read these conditions
and don’t wish to accept them you have seven (7) days to cancel your account
with TAC and receive a full refund less the greater amount of $2 per hour
used or 40 cents per Megabyte used.
If you decide to accept the
conditions of use by not canceling your account with TAC within the 7
days you agree to be bound by the conditions of use each time you log
on to TAC.
