TAC Internet Setup Instructions for Windows NT

Step 1: Creating Dialup Connection

1. Click the Start button, then click Programs, then select Accessories. Click Dial-Up networking. If you have no Dial-Up Networking entries present, the setup wizard will launch. In the first dialogue box, enter TAC as the new phonebook entry.

2. Place a tick in the box titled I am calling the Internet. Click the Next button.

3. Enter the phone number for the account that you have created. Click the Next button.

4. You have now finished entering the new phonebook entry. Click the Finish button to save your settings.

Step 2: Configuring Dialup Connection

1. You now need to configure the Dial-Up networking phonebook entry that you have just created. Click the Start menu, click Programs, select Accessories, and then click Dial-Up networking. Click on the TAC icon once to highlight it. Click the More button, and then select Edit entry and modem properties from the list.

2. Click the Server tab at the top and make sure that the Dial-up server type is set to "PPP: Windows NT, Windows 95 Plus, Internet". Put a tick in the "TCP/IP" box and make sure that the "IPX/SPX" compatible and "NetBEUI" boxes are not ticked. Put a tick in "Enable software compression" and "Enable PPP LCP extensions".

3. Click the "TCP/IP Settings" button. Select the option "Server assigned IP address". Select the option "Server assigned name server addresses". Make sure that "Use IP header compression" and "Use default gateway on remote network" are both ticked. Click OK at the bottom.

4. Click the Script tab at the top and place a dot next to "Pop up a terminal window". Click ok at the bottom.

 

NB: All accounts need to be created BEFORE you proceed to the next step.

STEP 3: Connecting to TAC ISP

  1. Double-click on the TAC ISP icon on your Desktop area. This will bring up a login screen. DO NOT enter your USERNAME or PASSWORD in this screen as the connection will not work. You will be prompted later for this information.
  2. Click the OK button, and your modem should start dialing.
  3. Once the terminal window comes up, enter your USERNAME, then press ENTER, then enter your PASSWORD (this will NOT be displayed on the screen), then press ENTER. When the number addresses appear click the DONE button.

You have now finished the Windows NT Internet Setup procedure!

 

STEP 4: Other Settings

PROXY SETTINGS (ONLY DO THIS STEP IF YOU WERE PREVIOUSLY WITH ANOTHER ISP)

  • INTERNET EXPLORER 5: Open Internet Explorer click on the TOOLS button, click on INTERNET OPTIONS, click on the CONNECTION tab, then click the SETTINGS button. Unselect the option CONNECT THROUGH A PROXY SERVER then click OK
  • INTERNET EXPLORER 4: Open Internet Explorer click on the VIEW button, click on INTERNET OPTIONS, click on the CONNECTION tab. Unselect the option CONNECT THROUGH A PROXY SERVER then click OK.
  • INTERNET EXPLORER 3: Open Internet Explorer click on the VIEW button then click on OPTIONS click on the CONNECTION tab. Unselect the option CONNECT THROUGH A PROXY SERVER then click OK.
  • NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR: Open Netscape click on OPTIONS click on NETWORK PREFERENCES on the PROXIES tab click DIRECT CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET then click OK.
  • NETSCAPE COMMUNICATOR: Open Netscape click on EDIT click on PREFERENCES then click on the plus next to the ADVANCED section. Select DIRECT CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET then click OK.

 

Mail Settings (must be set or mail will not work)

INTERNET MAIL: Open Internet Mail and click on the MAIL pull down menu, click on OPTIONS. Select the SERVER tab at the top of the page. Enter in all of the applicable information listed below.

OUTLOOK EXPRESS 4& 5: Open Outlook Express and click on the TOOLS pull down menu, click on ACCOUNTS. Select the MAIL tab at the top of the page, click the ADD button and then follow the setup wizard through entering all of the applicable information below.

  • POP3 server (incoming mail) : mail.tac.com.au
  • SMTP server (outgoing mail) : mail.tac.com.au
  • POP3 account is your Username. (Don’t type in Username, your Username is the name you log on with)
  • Your EMAIL address is : username@tac.com.au

 

News Settings: (must be set or news will not work)

INERNET NEWS: Open Internet News and click on NEWS pull down menu, click on OPTIONS. Select the SERVER tab at the top of the page and enter in all the applicable information listed below.

OUTLOOK EXPRESS 4& 5: Open Outlook Express and click on the TOOLS pull down menu, click on ACCOUNTS. Select the NEWS tab at the top of the page, click the ADD button and then follow the setup wizard through entering all of the applicable information below.

  • News server : news.tac.com.au

Home Page Log On

INTERNET EXPLORER 5: Open Internet Explorer in the address bar type www.tac.com.au press enter, click tools, click INTERNET OPTIONS, click the USE CURRENT button, then OK.

INTERNET EXPLORER 4: Open Internet Explorer in the address bar type www.tac.com.au press enter, click view, click INTERNET OPTIONS, click the USE CURRENT button, then OK.

INTERNET EXPLORER 3: Open Internet Explorer in the address bar type www.tac.com.au press enter, click view, click OPTIONS, click the USE CURRENT button, then OK.

NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR: Open Netscape click OPTIONS click GENERAL PREFERENCES click the APPEARANCE tab check radio button Home Page Location then type in http://www.tac.com.au then click OK.

NETSCAPE COMMUNICATOR: Open Netscape click EDIT then PREFERENCES. Select NAVIGATOR from the list and enter http://www.tac.com.au under the HOMEPAGE LOCATION section.

TAC CONDITIONS OF USE.

Like all ISP servers TAC has conditions of use. It is very important you read these conditions, as they are the basis of our agreement with you.

If you read these conditions and don’t wish to accept them you have seven (7) days to cancel your account with TAC and receive a full refund less the greater amount of $2 per hour used or 40 cents per Megabyte used.

If you decide to accept the conditions of use by not canceling your account with TAC within the 7 days you agree to be bound by the conditions of use each time you log on to TAC.
