P.U.D.S is passed as a draft strategy by Gosford Council
12th April 2006
The peninsula urban directions strategy was adopted by Gosford City council in a shameful exercise of disdain for the community overwhelming desire for low rise business centres no higher than 3 stories as suggested by state policy 71 and DCP 159.
Once again the public consultation was exposed as a sham. Gosford council didnt want to know the residents view ,just get the inside running from the development community.
Voting for strategy for the sake of it having one is poor policy management which does'nt reflect the greater communities needs.
Soscc rejects the high Growth Consolidation That Council voted for. This strategy has no answer to the chronic traffic problems, overloaded infrastructure, Deficit in open space and the increasing social disfunction and crime.
Suggesting 6 stories high rise residential around a train station because it is difficult to get to the station from Umina or Ettalong is a joke. This intensification will just creates more traffic congestion, as people have been shown time and time again to love their car.
This strategy is not the answer to any of the concerns raised by the councillors of all persuasions of infrastrucutre deficit, traffic congestion, social dysfunction and the creation of slums in vertical villages, although the strategy was passed through regardless.
We Maintain our call for low rise in the town centres. With a maximum of 3 stories in Umina and Woy Woy and 4 Stories in Ettalong.
More medium density adds to more strain on the fragile infrastructure balance. Studies show increased consolidation increases crime and many other social ills that are evident already aound the peninsula, yet thousands more are to be squeeeeezed in.
Make a stand today dont wait till your amenity and lifestyle is affected. Make your thoughts on this strategy be known to those in power today!
This is still just a draft for the local environnment plan
There is no demonstrated strategic requirements to accommodate population growth in the PUDS document, and only a modicum of design quality is not good enough. With NO strategic basis only a demand by the state government that the Peninsula accept unsustainable continued growth. Gosford council was obliged to say NO.
IT DID'NT ...Just to save face from being ascribed a dysfunctional unit the mayors casting vote was used, dissmissing their constituents legitimate concerns all for an economic argument.
The council resolution adopted on 5 April 05 states
"It be noted that the draft Peninsula Urban Design Strategy is dependant on State Government and Council providing the necessary infrastructure to match the anticipated population growth on the peninsula"
WHERES THE INFRASTRUCTURE AND SERVICES COUNCIL AND
MINISTERS???
